Little River Protection Fund

The Little River of Belfast and Northport, Maine, is the only contiguous greenbelt and waterway from Belfast to the Penobscot Bay. Boasting 5 miles of public hiking trails that hug the river’s shoreline and weave between tall white pines and wide-girthed hemlocks, this parcel is truly unique.  Residents and visitors alike come to swim, fish, hike, picnic by the river, watch the abundant birds, and enjoy a beautiful view of the Penobscot Bay throughout the seasons.

Fifty-four acres of this beloved natural area was recently put up for sale by Nordic Aquafarms.  In order to guarantee this unique place is permanently protected, Upstream Watch entered into a contract to purchase this parcel. Upstream is a grass-roots organization formed to evaluate the Nordic project and is committed to ensuring this unique location will be enjoyed by all for generations to come.

Donations made by clicking the button above will be allocated to the protection of the Little River and the acquisition of the former Nordic Aquafarms parcel. If you have questions about the project, would like to make a pledge, or discuss other ways to donate including gifts of stock, please contact interim executive director, Pete Nichols, at pete@upstreamwatch.org.

Thank you!
